We were thrilled to host League One side Cambridge United last week at our home playing ground in East London.

Pictured are 3 of our ECA scholars with Academy Manager Michael Oshin in the Cambridge United stripes.

Mahmud Sesay - Mahmud has taken the responsibility of captain this season within our domestic and international games programme. His performances this season has caught the attention of several football clubs these past few months after completing his first 2 years. He has pushed on this year and has raised his level in his 3rd year. His journey is one to watch out for as we start our University provision and head to the United States, where Mahmud already has several MLS and USL teams interested in his future.

Kabba Ndow - is one of our international students coming from Gambia and has quickly got to grips and understanding of his role as a modern day fullback, scoring 7 goals already this season. His standout performances have been in our Senior Football pathway, our partnership with Barkingside FC, where our boys represent the first team and reserves. He has put in strong performances over the weeks seeing the reserves sit joint top at the table. He is definitely one to watch out for, as we head to Gambia in 14 days to conduct a national trial in search of the next success story.

Antoine Sanchez - who is the youngest of them all but has already set the benchmark of a player who fits all of our values. Antoine has already earned multiple trial opportunities after strong performances in the FA Youth Cup and in our domestic games programme. A tall, athletic box to box midfielder - we are hopeful he can push on and join our list of growing academy graduates with the support of our Club Chairman.

All 3 boys are currently enrolled to our full-time programme either studying A-Levels or BTEC, we thank Jack Thorpe and Cambridge United for the opportunity they have given these 3 young men.

Massive congratulations to TJ Bello, who has become our latest Academy Graduate, penning a 2 year deal with Leyton Orient Football Club.

TJ becomes the 5th Academy Graduate from ECA to sign papers with Leyton Orient following in the footsteps of Emmanuel Kwatchey and Emmanuel Harvest.

TJ’s journey with us was not straightforward and included setbacks along the way. We organised multiple trials for him at major football clubs from Crystal Palace to Ipswich Town, where he was unsuccessful.

TJ was then handed the opportunity by our school governor to trial at Millwall during the 24/25 pre season where he was very close to penning a deal at the championship outfit. After an unfortunate unsuccessful trial, we reached out to friends at Leyton Orient and under the watchful eye of Head of Recruitment Brian Saah, TJ was offered a trial and subsequently was offered a contract.

We are all very proud of TJ and his endeavour, attitude and character are the core values at ECA. With these values, he persevered and was rewarded at the end.

We all can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young man. 👏🏽

What an amazing experience over the past 2 days in Lublin at Motor Lublin Academy for both our staff and players. Although we narrowly faced a 3-2 loss, it was a great challenge for our players to showcase their abilities against some strong opposition and in front of their club director and staff.

From the hospitality, to the facilities, to the club staff we were well looked after! The experience was an eye opener for a lot of our players on what is needed to make it to the professional level of football.

We will be aiming to unearth the best young talents from West Africa at the Brikama Stadium, home of Brikama Utd FC who will be one of 7 Gambian Premier/Second division clubs invited to participate. The remaining teams include our partners Kanifing East FC, Unique Global FC, Waa Banjul FC, Medina FC, Hawks FC, Wallidan FC, and a team of ECA trialists.

The trials will be divided into 2 stages:

Stage 1 - 88 players
Stage 2 - 8 Team tournament

As the first ever edition of ECA’s ‘Global Trials Programme’ we have high hopes the trials will kickstart a successful campaign of unearthing top talents all over the African continent.

This marks 4 consecutive weeks of back to back games against professional clubs. Our scholars have had exposure to a variety of clubs across the football pyramid since the academic year started in September. We have no doubt this weekend will be another tough test for our young players.
